Leeds Akkies was founded in 2003 by students from the three universities of Leeds to provide a pathway from student rugby league to open age amateur rugby league.

Our mission is to be renowned as sucessful rugby league club via the promotion of player development in a sociable and welcoming environment.

A message from the Chairman...

As a co-founder of the Akkies it's a real honour to be returning to the club as chairman in 2010 and I'm confident that the new committee we have on board are capable of driving the club forward on and off the field both next year and beyond.

In the meantime, I'd like to thank Jez and the rest of last year's committee for all their hard work during 2009. In terms of Jez's personal contribution, it's very difficult to put a figure on the amount of work he has put into the club over the past seven years. It's an honour for both myself and the rest of the new committee to be following on from the lead that Jez has set and also a pleasure and a relief that he has chosen to stay on as a member of the new committee.

We'll be making a number of exciting and significant announcements in the coming weeks about:

* A new home ground

* Playing leagues + other football matters

* Social calendar

Before then, however, our focus is on seeing out 2009 in style with our annual Xmas shindig.

Once again we will be descending upon Leeds' famous German Market resplendant in our best Xmas jumpers. We'll be meeting next Saturday (December 5th) at 5pm; Please make every effort to be there. This is a great opportunity for Akkies old and new to get together over a few drinks and start building the anticipation for 2010.

I hope to see you all there and look forward to sharing some of our plans for the new season over the coming weeks.
